Our priority at Timeks Hotel is to ensure our guests can explore Sultanahmet like a local. Timeks Hotel is located on a street paralel to The Hippodrome of Constantinople which was the social center of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire. 6th-century St. Sophia, 15th-century Topkapi Palace, 17th-century Blue Mosque are some of the most important historical structures surrounding the Hippodrome area.
Humans have inhabited the area now known as Istanbul since the Neolithic Age. The earliest known settlement dates back to 6700 BC. In AD 324, the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great decided to move the seat of the government from Rome to Byzantium, which he renamed Nova Roma (New Rome). This name failed to impress and the city soon became known as Constantinople, the City of Constantine. Now known as Istanbul, the city has been home to many different cultures, and ethnicities throughout its history.
